Club News

Sentinels are a big hit at Mt. Shasta Jazz Show

Students from Spanaway Lake High School and Cedarcrest Junior High recently attended the Mt. Shasta Vocal Jazz and Show Choir Camp in Weed, CA. On July 3rd and 4th the group performed on the steps of a Mt. Shasta Elementary School for an audience of 5000 people during a 2k walk

SLHS Clubs

Art Club
This club is for art lovers. Mural painting is a big part of this club. Murals located in the commons and main entrance were created by the Art Club.

Band
SLHS has great pride in the band. Symphonic, Concert, Sentinel and Jazz are the four bands at Spanaway Lake. You will see our bands at athletic events, in parades and performing at concerts.
Mr. Mercer is the band instructor

Cheerleading
Our cheer squad provides team support, leadership and student participation during atheltic contests. They also serve at school and community funtions and enjoy representing SLHS in competitions and parades throughout the year.
The cheer coaches are Ms. Schoeler and Ms. Frymire

Choir
Our choirs include Men’s and Women’s Choir (sophomore boys and girls chorus), Concert Choir and Music Company. The Music Company is an audition only group. They perform at various community functions and competitions throughout the year.
Mr.Crouse is the instructor for each of these groups.

Drama
Drama is for students interested in acting, set construction or costumes. Our drama club is busy throughout the year practicing and performing.

FCCLA
The Family Career and Community Leaders of America helps promote personal growth and leadership through family and consumer science.
Mrs. Lafferty and Mrs. Misely are the advisors

French Club
The French Club promotes an appreciation of French language and culture.

Heritage Club

Heritage Club is composed of all cultures represented at Spanaway Lake. The purpose is to promote harmony between races and in our community. Meetings are every Thursday after school in room 114.  Ms. Menka and Ms. Nalder are the advisors.

High Steppers
High Steppers is a combination of dance, drill and step. The team often performs for event half time shows and also participates in parades. Members are selected through an audition process.
Mr. Sheilds is the advisor

Key Club
This is the largest high school service organization sponsored around the world by the Kiwanis International, an organization of professional and business personnel. Activities include community service, food drives, blood drives and the Festival of Trees.
Ms. Noble-Perry is the advisor

Leadership
This is a co-curricular class designed to learn and practice leadership skills. Students are involved in planning assemblies and a variety of school activities.
Mr. Hoseth is the teacher/advisor

MESA
This club is designed to assist students improve math, engineering and science skills and competencies. They compete in math and science competitions, invite guest speakers, locate scholarships and internships and develop study and leadership skills. The group also plans several field trips to career fairs, college campuses and other math/science evetns. The club is open to all students.

National Honors Society
With an accumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or better, students are eligible to apply from membership in Honor Society. The club helps with tutoring programs, sponsors and an honor roll assembly.

Newspaper “On Guard”
The “On Guard” is a forum for students’ expression. It brings relevant concerns to the students in a timely manner.

NJROTC
Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is about honor, respect and pride. Members learn the skills of a leader. Credits available through this course include health and fitness, career technical and electives. Students develop great bonds and learn skills to use in the “real world”. Participants also gain eligibility for higher ranks upon enlistment.

Photo Club
Photo club is for anyone who loves originality. Members learn to craft things like calendars, shirts, and cool pictures as well as learn about digital cameras. Enrollment in a photography class is not required.

2906 Robotics Club
Robotics Club – Join Now As The Build Season Begins
The 2009 season came to an end after competition in late March. The 2010 build season does not start until January 9th, 2010, but the preseason work has already begun for Sentinel Robotics. This preseason planning and working makes the build season run smoother and increases the chances of winning an award. This is an important phase in the robotics season. If you plan on joining the team, the sooner the better.

Video Productions
This is a club for students who appreciate cinematography and want to learn more about pre and post-productions. Members should be enrolled in a video productions class.

Yearbook
The Centurion is designed by students over the course of the school year. Being a staff member requires skills in journalism, layout and photography.
